Ann Coulter! Is it true?

2 Things for today

If you feel the urge, send an email to ExxonMobil to let them know that you will not buy ExxonMobil gasoline unless -- and until -- ExxonMobil takes meaningful action to curb global warming, to invest in renewable energy, and to pay for the damages done by the Exxon Valdez oil spill in Alaska.

Also, I'd like to thank the Captain for this:

Today's Wrath of God...

  • Because, like I said before, God Hates Indonesia: A magnitude 6.4 undersea earthquake struck Indonesia's Moluccas islands on Tuesday and there was a possibility of a tsunami, an official at the meteorological agency said.
  • And, Everybody Hates Florida: Tropical Storm Ernesto moved over water north of Cuba Tuesday and was expected to strengthen before striking Florida, the National Hurricane Center said.
  • But, Why God? Why Hawaii?: The U.S. military has evacuated 200 people from Wake Island before the arrival of Typhoon Ioke, the strongest Central Pacific hurricane in more than decade. Classified as a Category 5 "super typhoon," Ioke is expected to extensively damage the U.S. territory when it hits Wednesday with 155-mph winds, said Jeff Powell, lead forecaster for the National Weather Service in Honolulu.

If God is Real…

….If God is real (and for this post, we’re talking about the Christian Catholic God), then everything that happens is his will, correct? He makes the world spin, light bulbs turn on, and my fingers type these lines (and my brain form these thoughts). Ok, ok, free will. Right. But, no, its Gods will.

So, if god exists, and things happen according to his will, what the hell are all the believers worried about? Its either his will, or if not, free will that will send others to hell.

US Rep Katherine Harris stated that separating religion and politics is "wrong because God is the one who chooses our rulers."

Yet, she also said "If you're not electing Christians, then in essence you are going to legislate sin,"

So, which is it? Are we choosing the rulers, or is God? These far right bible bashers need to get their heads out of their asses and come up with a straight story that makes sense. Because they are confusing the hell out of me. Maybe that’s their plan, the whole dis and mis information. Just like politics. Hmmmmm…..

Every little bit: This weeks Action Items....

...It may not seem like much, but every little bit helps, right? I sign hundreds of petitions a week, online, because at least I'm adding my name to causes I believe in. What happens next, well, who knows. But why not? So, here are a number of petitions that I've recieved via email, that you can very simply go online and sign, if you agree:

Privacy and Freedom:
· Dick Cheney and Senator Arlen Specter (R-PA) have agreed that the government should be able to access Americans' conversations and emails without getting an individualized warrant.
· Under the guise of responding to the NSA spying scandal, the Bush administration and its allies in Congress are actually pushing for new ways to invade your privacy, with unprecedented and dangerous spying legislation crafted under Dick Cheney’s supervision. Petition 1, 2, and 3.

Media Consolidation:
· The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has begun rewriting long-standing rules meant to keep a single company from buying up too many television stations, radio stations and newspapers in individual markets and they are asking for the public’s comments on these possible changes. Petition

Global Warming:
· Tell the government it’s a priority
· Ask Bush to see An Inconvenient Truth:

The Environment:
· Boycott Exxon until they stop driving the effort to drill in the Arctic Refuge! Petition
· The US has a serious nuclear waste problem, and like the rest of the world, we have found no solution. Nonetheless, the White House is proposing a giant program to import and reprocess foreign spent fuel. This will increase the amount of highly radioactive waste the US would have to permanently store Petition

Stem Cell Research:
· If you support it: Petition

Employee Rights:
· Unions, Employee Free Choice Act
· Library workers union

Animal Rights
· Canadian Seal Hunt – Boycott Canadian Seafood
· Support the anti-horse slaughter act
· Tuna that is low in mercury and dolphin safe: higher fishing standards
· Condemn China’s dog slaughter
· Overfishing regulation
· Stop the Idaho Wolf Massacre
· Protect wildlife in the preserves we made for them:

Gay Rights
· Idiotic anti-gay website of the year

· Tell the FDA, make the pill available:
· Support Real Sex Education:
· Oppose fake Abortion clinics

Human Rights
· Native American’s denied tax breaks for renewable energy
· Don’t criminalize refugees

General
· Demand cars made safer for kids (who care’s about Natural Selection anyways?)

He who seeketh eternal life...

....shall be ridiculed by the media. Wacky Magician guy David Copperfield, who owns 4 islands in the Caribbean, claims to have found the fountain of youth there. "I've discovered a true phenomenon," Copperfield told the wire service. "You can take dead leaves, they come in contact with the water, they become full of life again...Bugs or insects that are near death, come in contact with the water, they'll fly away. It's an amazing thing, very, very exciting."

Our favorite new beastie is popping up all over the news!

Have they found the logos? Scientists believe they have found a key gene that helped the human brain evolve from our chimp-like ancestors. In just a few million years, one area of the human genome seems to have evolved about 70 times faster than the rest of our genetic code. It appears to have a role in a rapid tripling of the size of the brain's crucial cerebral cortex, according to an article published Thursday in the journal Nature.

A Good Read...

...here's a little article posted over at WOW that I'd like you all to read.

Its a bit on history, on the wars we've fought, and the wars we're fighting, and if maybe, just maybe, going to war in Iraq was actually a good idea.

it may not be entirely accurate, but its very persuading.

oooh, mystery beast...

....you know how Hobbs loves this kinda stuff!

Residents are wondering if the animal found dead (right) may be the creature that has been the subject of local legend for half a generation.

The animal was found near power lines along Route 4 on Saturday, apparently struck by a car while chasing a cat. The carcass was photographed and inspected by several people who live in the area, but nobody is sure exactly what it is.

For the past 15 years, residents across Androscoggin County have reported seeing and hearing a mysterious animal with chilling monstrous cries and eyes that glow in the night. The animal has been blamed for attacking and killing a Doberman pinscher and a Rottweiler the past couple of years.

Wildlife officials and animal control officers declined to go to Turner to examine the remains. By Tuesday, the carcass had been picked clean by vultures and there was not much left of the dead animal.

Today's 2012 fun facts...

...Transits of Venus across the solar disk are rare events; only seven have taken place since the beginning of the 17th century. A detailed and accurate calculation by the Institut de Mécanique Céleste et de Calcul des Éphémérides (IMCCE) in Paris shows that there are exactly 82 Venus Transits between the years -3000 (BC) and 3000, that is, over a span of 6 millennia.

The first of these took place on November 17, -2970, and the last one will happen on June 14, 2984. If you are interested in more details, you may consult the extensive table ("Canon of Transits") on the comprehensive CD-ROM ( "Les Rendez-Vous de Vénus" ) that was produced by the Paris Observatory and also contains more than 10,000 fascimile pages of historical documents related to transit expeditions and observations. Look here for a brief description (Word) with some examples of the pages. It is on sale at EDP Sciences .

The next Venus Transits will take place in June 2012.

How to Handle a Conspiracy Theory...

....So, what do you do when people start questioning the validity of a major event or entity, like say the JFK assassination, the Pentagon, the 9/11 bombing, or, lets say, the Moon Landing? How do you handle it when huge groups of people start claiming this event was false, or a cover-up, a smokescreen? More importantly, how do you handle it when deep down, you know they are right?

Answer: Lose the 'evidence!'

Yes, that is an excellent solution. 'Misplace' the pieces of 'evidence' that 'exist' so that you can use only the memory of 'proof' to back up your story.

Ah, NASA, you guys really are geniuses!

The U.S. government has misplaced the original recording of the first moon landing, including astronaut Neil Armstrong's famous "one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind," a NASA spokesman said on Monday.

The tapes also contain data about the health of the astronauts and the condition of the spacecraft. In all, some 700 boxes of transmissions from the Apollo lunar missions are missing.

"We are working on the assumption they still exist," said John Sarkissian, a CSIRO scientist. "Your guess is a good as mine as to where they are."

Today's 2012 fun 'facts'

Definition: [Astrological Ages] The idea that the current 'age' of the Mayan 'Long Count' calendar was designed by them to end on 21-Dec-2012 because that is the date of a Winter Solstice alignment of the Sun and the Galaxy. This idea was first promoted by John Major Jenkins in his book Maya Cosmogenesis 2012 [published in 1998]. The steps of the argument appear to be as follows:

1: The Maya used what is now called a 'Long Count' calendar, of which the current longest cycle is dated to end on the 21 December 2012.
2: The Maya particularly picked an end date of this cycle [rather than a start date] because they had calculated that on that date the Sun would be in the 'exact center of the Milky Way, the Galactic Equator' [1]. In Mayan thought this 'dark cleft of the Milky Way' [1] had particular mythical significance.
3: In order to set this end date the Maya must have been able to calculate very exactly the Precession of the Equinoxes, because it is this phenomenon which appears to move the Winter Solstice Sun around the Ecliptic to be in the significant place in 2012.

Thought Police....

....thanks to the supposed 'acts of terrorism' that our government claims happened a few years
back, the almighty THEY have been eroding our constitution further and further, right before our very eyes. People are blind to it, thanks to THEIR old friend, fear. You all know fear, right? Fear has been used for quite some time in our sick society. Fear has been used by THEM to make us want more, consume more, covet our material items more, surround ourselves with needless items, to make us feel safe, secure, and with 'it.' Fear has become such an easy tool to moderate for them. They use it to control our image of what is beauty, what is cool, what is safe, what is happiness.

The last few years have been all about what is 'safe.' Thanks to 'terrorism,' we are coming closer to martial law every day. No more are the days where the people are able to rise up against a tyranical government to make things right. Now, if you are against your government, you are in a heap of trouble (you people have any idea how many 'unknown' ISP address hits I get here at the Greater Good? And when i check the map, where are they all based? Yup, Washington. I'm on to you, fukkers!).

So, Here is the latest in your government issued protection against (fill in blank). Careful what you think or say. It can be used against you in a Military Court of Law.

From the Washington post, via civilrights.org:

"A draft Bush administration plan for special military courts seeks to expand the reach and authority of such "commissions" to include trials, for the first time, of people who are not members of al-Qaeda or the Taliban and are not directly involved in acts of international terrorism, according to officials familiar with the proposal.

The plan, which would replace a military trial system ruled illegal by the Supreme Court in June, would also allow the secretary of defense to add crimes at will to those under the military court's jurisdiction. The two provisions would be likely to put more individuals than previously expected before military juries, officials and independent experts said."

"Prudence, indeed, will dictate that governments long established, should not be changed for light and transient causes; and, accordingly, all experience [has] shown that mankind are more disposed to suffer while evils are sufferable than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But, when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same object, evinces a design to reduce [the people] under absolute despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such government, and to provide new guards for their future security." --Thomas Jefferson: Declaration of Independence, 1776. There is still humor in destruction..

...and as this cycle comes closer to the end, I don't want to spend all my precious time screaming from a soapbox about armageddon. I still believe in Do What Thou Wilt, and i believe that we all need to enjoy our lives. And what is more fun and a Montage of George Bush 'singing' Sunday Bloody Sunday?' Well, a lot of things are more fun, but this was so well done, you all need to see it! So, without further adoooooo......

How will Humanity outlive Doomsday?

...a question that troubles many. How can we, as a species, preserve our species and other earthbound species to live beyond a global disaster, a Doomsday, as it were.

Here is an interesting read on a couple of current options that are well under way. We've got the Doomsday Vault being built in the Norwegian Arctic (probably safer than New York City) to store and stockpile crop seeds. There is the Frozen Ark in England, storing DNA samples from endangered species. And there is ARC, the Alliance to Rescue Civilization, who wants to build a station on the moon storing samples of all life on earth, and a compendium of Human Knowledge.

I support these projects fully, and look forward to their progress.
